Concentration
Theme: Memories. Memories are an essential asset of each person’s life. They are what makes us human, something everyone prides his/herself to be. These works are about the many memories from the 17 years of my life. Many of these memories are daily reminders and inspirations for my artwork among other decisions I make. I chose to create these to show people, especially teens who are currently in their more emotional phase, that despite harsh or traumatic upbringings, you can be successful and, more importantly, happy.
The contrast of bright colors and darker meanings works to confuse and overwhelm the viewer into a sort of emotional chaos. By doing this, these works portray my life and the feelings behind each piece. “Arguments” is the best example of this emotional chaos because there is so much to look at, but the underlying meaning is quite obvious. Most of the work also involve some sort of movement to add to this confusion.
“The Truth of Solitude” and “Hidden” both have poems that serve to tell a story. “The Truth of Solitude” generalizes what all of these pieces mean and the point behind this concentration. “Hidden” portrays a mindset that many teenagers go through at some point in their lives.
This is a story of who I am and how I have become the person I am today. And this work serves to teach those like me that it's okay to not be okay sometimes.
